Fees

Salisbury Family care is a fully Accredited General Practice which means we uphold quality standards at all times.

 

At Salisbury Family Care, all doctors and staff are committed to providing the best possible care. To achieve this we provide modern, well equipped facilities with highly trained medical, nursing, allied health and administration staff. We provide appointments of adequate time to assess and discuss all medical issues without feeling rushed or hurried. Our standard appointment time is 15 minutes when most practices in the north run on 10-minutes-consults. Longer appointments are available when required.

 

This service costs money. Staff need to be paid. Equipment needs to be upgraded and maintained. Premises need maintenance and rent need to be paid.

 

Unfortunately the Medicare rebate has not kept pace with the increasing cost of maintaining a high quality practice.

 

 

 

 

Until now, the doctors in Salisbury Family Care have absorbed the increased cost of maintaining the practice by continuing to discount all patients by not charging a “gap” above the Medicare rebate. This as the result of decreasing their personal income and putting an extra strain on the business.

 

Unfortunately, as the difference between the Medicare rebate and the cost of maintaining a practice has increased (staff pay award increase, utility bills increase, rent increase, equipment maintenance and consumable prices increase) we are no longer able to continue to do this.

 

The choice before us is either to maintain the current level of care and service and charge the patient an out of pocket expense, or to reduce the standard and range of care that we are able to provide.

 

 

We have chosen our standard of care and service delivery.

It is not our intention that anyone should be denied care on their ability to pay. If you have a genuine difficulty in paying a gap for your care, please feel free to discuss this either with your doctor or one of the staff member.

We will continue to discount and not charge a gap to:

  • Health care card holders
  • Pension card holders
  • Department of Veteran Affairs (DVA) card holders
  • Children below the age of 16 years

From 1st of July 2021, a gap fee of $25 will apply. The full fee (total of Medicare rebate plus the gap fee) is payable on the day. Medicare component of the fee can be claimed back by direct online claiming (ask staff).

 

Dr Colin Watson charges a gap fee for standard consultations and home visits.

Other Fees

Minor surgical procedures, vaccinations, excisions, dressings etc will incur a nominal fee, please speak with our reception team for details.

Non Attendance

Not attending a consultation without prior notice denies another patient an opportunity to see their doctor/allied health professional. This causes an inconvenience to patients, clinicians and the practice.

 

The clinician and the practice reserve the right enforce a cancellation fee of up to $50.00 or to deny further clinical care to a patient who does not show up for their consultation without having given prior notice.

Script Fees

Generally we like to see patients when requesting a repeat prescription to review your health and limit overuse/misuse, (unless otherwise decided by your doctor).

Prescriptions issued by a doctor without a consultation will now incur a $10.00 fee and will take up to 48 hours to be available for collection.

Please note that scripts for Blood Pressure or Contraception medications will not be supplied without a consult. If your request is urgent, only one month’s supply will be issued, and an appointment must be made with your GP.

The $10 fee also applies to lost prescriptions.

Referrals

Patients requiring a reissue of a referral will need to make an appointment with their GP.

Social Media Policy

Our practice may observe the content and information made available by employees through social media.

 

Examples of prohibited social media content include posting commentary, content or images that are defamatory, pornographic, propriety, harassing or libelous.

 

Employees are not to publish, post or release any information that is considered confidential or not public.

 

Employees must get appropriate permission before referring or posting images of current or former employees, contractors or patients.

 

Employees must be clear that their online posts are personal and purely their own. The practice should not be held liable for any repercussions the employees content may generate.

 

Employees must show respect for others and others opinions in all posts.
